A Concurrent Resolution recognizing the role of natural gas in New Jersey's energy policy goals and declaring natural gas a clean fuel.
Whereas, The State of New Jersey has long been committed to improving the environment and reducing the overall carbon footprint of New Jersey's energy sector; and
Whereas, Natural gas is a vital component of New Jersey's energy mix, providing reliable and affordable energy for homes, businesses, and industries across the State; and
Whereas, Natural gas is recognized as one of the cleanest available sources of energy compared to other conventional fuels such as coal and oil, with a significantly lower carbon dioxide emission per unit of energy produced according to the Energy Information Administration; and
Whereas, Recent advancements in technology, such as cleaner extraction methods and carbon capture and storage, continue to improve the environmental performance of natural gas production and usage, further reducing its impact on the environment; and
Whereas, Natural gas usage in transportation, electricity generation, and residential and commercial heating results in a reduction in harmful emission compared to other conventional fuels, making natural gas an essential part of New Jersey's strategy for achieving its greenhouse gas reduction targets; and
Whereas, Natural gas is a fuel that plays a critical role in the State's broader energy policy to reduce air pollution and invest in energy efficiency; now, therefore,
Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of New Jersey (the General Assembly concurring):
1. The Legislature of the State of New Jersey recognizes the role of natural gas in New Jersey's energy policy goals and declares natural gas a clean fuel.
2. Copies of this resolution, as filed with the Secretary of State, shall be transmitted by the Clerk of the General Assembly or the Secretary of the Senate to the Governor and the President of the Board of Public Utilities.
