STATEMENT

This bill would require hospital, medical, and health service corporations, individual, small employer, and larger employer commercial insurers, and health maintenance organizations to provide coverage for medically necessary expenses incurred in the use of positron emission tomography (PET scan) to diagnose Alzheimer's disease.

PET scans are among the most sensitive tests available for early detection of Alzheimer's disease, and use of the PET scan will enable treatment for Alzheimer's disease to begin as soon as possible, before the disease is in an advanced stage.
