SYNOPSIS

     Directs State Board of Education to include instruction on remote learning in professional development requirements for public school teaching staff members.

An Act concerning the professional development requirements of public school teachers and supplementing chapter 6 of Title 18A of the New Jersey Statutes. 

 

     Be It Enacted by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:

 

     1.    a.  The State Board of Education shall, as part of the professional development requirement established by the State board for public school teaching staff members, require each public school teaching staff member to complete at least two hours of instruction on remote learning in each school year.

     b.    The instruction on remote learning shall include information on:

     (1)   revising curriculum for an online platform;

     (2)   the most effective tools available for content delivery;

     (3)   creating opportunities for student engagement and discussion;

     (4)   building and sustaining community and connection with, and among, students; and

     (5)   delivering assessments online and monitoring academic progress.

 

     2.    This act shall take effect immediately and shall first apply to the first full school year following the date of enactment. 

 

 

STATEMENT

 

     This bill directs the State Board of Education, as part of the professional development requirement established by the State board for public school teaching staff members, to require each public school teaching staff member to complete at least two hours of instruction on remote learning in each school year.

     Under the bill, the instruction on remote learning is required to include information on:

     (1)   revising curriculum for an online platform;

     (2)   the most effective tools available for content delivery;

     (3)   creating opportunities for student engagement and discussion;

     (4)   building and sustaining community and connection with, and among, students; and

     (5)   delivering assessments online and monitoring academic progress.
