SYNOPSIS
Concerns operation of vehicle by family of deceased.

An Act concerning motor vehicles and amending P.L.1964, c.163.
Be It Enacted by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:
1. Section 1 of P.L.1964, c.163 (C.39:3-30.3) is amended to read as follows:
Any motor [vehicles] vehicle registered in the name of [any] a decedent may be operated, upon the public highways of this State, by a duly licensed driver who is, or is authorized to drive [the same] it by, the surviving spouse or other family member of the [family of said] decedent, under and by virtue of the registration certificate of [such] the motor vehicle issued to [such] the decedent, for a period of not [exceeding 30] more than 90 days after the death of [such] the decedent.

2. This act shall take effect immediately.
STATEMENT
This bill provides that in the event of a vehicle owner's death, the surviving family of the deceased would be able to operate the decedent's vehicle for up to 90 days. Under current law, the surviving family members may operate the decedent's vehicle for a period of no more than 30 days, after which time the vehicle registration and title are to be transferred.
