SYNOPSIS
Requires certain counties and municipalities to accept electronic mail and text messages as an appropriate response to any law enforcement and firefighter civil service examination application follow-up.

An Act concerning the law enforcement and firefighter civil service examination application and supplementing Title 11A of the New Jersey Statues.
Be It Enacted by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:
1. Notwithstanding any law, rule, or regulation to the contrary, a county or municipality operating under the provisions of Title 11A, Civil Service, of the New Jersey Statues, which established a police department pursuant to N.J.S.40A:14-106 or N.J.S.40A:14-118, or a fire district or fire department pursuant to N.J.S.40A:14-9.9 or N.J.S.40A:14-70, shall accept electronic mail and text messages as an appropriate response to any follow-up communication concerning the civil service law enforcement or firefighter examination application.
2. This act shall take effect immediately.
STATEMENT
This bill requires any county or municipality which established a police department, fire district, or fire department that operates under the provisions of Title 11A (Civil Service) of the New Jersey Statues to accept electronic mail and text messages as an appropriate response to any follow-up communication concerning the civil service law enforcement or firefighter examination application.
