SYNOPSIS

     Provides additional State aid to county colleges for students enrolled in postsecondary career and technical education certificate programs.

An Act concerning funding for county colleges and supplementing chapter 64A of Title 18A of the New Jersey Statutes.

 

     Be It Enacted by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:

 

     1.    Beginning in the first full academic year after the effective date of this act, a county college shall receive State aid to support the operation of a career and technical education certificate program offered by the county college.  State aid shall be distributed on a full-time equivalent basis for each student enrolled in a career and technical education certificate program.  In the first academic year, the county college shall receive $1,500 per pupil enrolled in a career and technical education certificate program.  In subsequent academic years, the per pupil funding amount shall be increased by the CPI, as defined pursuant to section 3 of P.L.2007, c.260 (C.18A:7F-45).

 

     2.    The Secretary of Higher Education, in consultation with the Commissioner of Labor and Workforce Development, shall identify funding providing for employment training programs that may be used to effectuate the provisions of this act.

 

     3.    This act shall take effect immediately.

 

 

STATEMENT

 

     This bill provides State aid to county colleges to support the operation of career and technical education certificate programs offered by the county colleges.  In the first academic year, the aid would total $1,500 per pupil enrolled in a career and technical education certificate program.  In subsequent years, the per pupil aid amount will be increased by the CPI.
