SYNOPSIS

     Requires Department of Education and Department of Labor and Workforce Development to provide information on their websites concerning high school equivalency tests.

An Act concerning high school equivalency tests and supplementing chapter 50A of Title 18A of the New Jersey Statutes.

 

     Be It Enacted by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:

 

     1.  a.  The Department of Education shall maintain on its website a centralized and easily accessible source of information regarding the high school equivalency tests approved by the State Board of Education that enable an individual who did not complete high school to qualify for a State-issued high school diploma.  The purpose of the information shall be to assist potential test takers in understanding each of their options, and the respective requirements, for earning a State-issued high school diploma.          

     b.  The Department of Labor and Workforce Development shall make available on its website the information described in subsection a. of this section, or shall include on its website a link to the information provided on the website of the Department of Education.

 

     2.  This act shall take effect on the first day of the third month next following the date of enactment.

 

 

STATEMENT

 

     This bill requires the Department of Education to maintain a centralized source of information on its website regarding the high school equivalency tests that enable an individual who did not complete high school to qualify for a State-issued high school diploma.  The information must be easily accessible and is intended to assist potential test takers in understanding each of their options, and the respective requirements, for earning a State-issued high school diploma.  The bill also requires the Department of Labor and Workforce Development to make the same information available on its website or to include a link to the information provided on the Department of Education's website.
