     Provides emergency services exemption for vehicle spotlights.

An Act concerning spotlights and amending R.S.39:3-53.

 

     Be It Enacted by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:

 

     1.    R.S.39:3-53 is amended to read as follows:

     39:3-53.  Any motor vehicle may be equipped with not to exceed one spot lamp but the use of any such spot lamp for driving purposes is prohibited and every lighted spot lamp shall be so aimed and used so as not to be dazzling or glaring to any person.

     The limitation on the number of spot lamps set forth in this section shall not apply to any emergency services vehicles including law enforcement vehicles, ambulances, and official fire department vehicles.

     2.    This act shall take effect immediately.

 

 

STATEMENT

 

     This bill provides clarification that emergency services entities may equip vehicles with more than one spot lamp as needed.

     Law Enforcement vehicles, and other emergency vehicles, are sometimes equipped with an auxiliary lamp to illuminate signs, house numbers, and people as needed.
