SYNOPSIS

     Requires public schools to include instruction on oral health as part of core curriculum content standards.

An Act concerning public school curriculum instruction on oral health and supplementing chapter 35 of Title 18A of the New Jersey Statutes.

 

     Be It Enacted by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:

 

     1.    Each board of education which operates an educational program for public school students shall include instruction on the importance of oral health, in an appropriate place in the curriculum of elementary school, middle school, and high school as part of the Core Curriculum Content Standards in Comprehensive Health and Physical Education.  The instruction shall include age-appropriate learning activities and resources designed to promote awareness of oral health, the importance of proper dental hygiene and routine periodic dental examinations, and the negative impact that consuming certain foods and beverages can have on oral health.

 

     2.    This act shall take effect immediately and shall first apply to the 2011-2012 school year.

 

 

STATEMENT
