SYNOPSIS
Extends duration of civil service promotional eligible list to not more than five years or two additional years for good cause.

An Act concerning duration of civil service promotional eligible lists and amending N.J.S.11A:4-7.
Be It Enacted by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:
1. N.J.S.11A:4-7 is amended to read as follows:
11A:4-7. Exceptions to duration of a list. Notwithstanding the provisions of N.J.S.11A:4-6,
a. a special reemployment list, a police reemployment list and a fire reemployment list shall have unlimited duration; and
b. the duration of a promotional eligible list established in accordance with N.J.S.11A:4-9 shall not be more than five years from the date of its establishment, except that it may be extended for two years by the commission for good cause.

2. This act shall take effect immediately and apply to a promotional eligible list compiled after the effective date.
STATEMENT
This bill provides that the duration of a civil service promotional eligible list established by the Civil Service Commission for qualified permanent eligible persons in accordance with N.J.S.11A:4-9 will not be more than five years from the date of its establishment, except that it may be extended for two years by the commission for good cause. Currently, the duration of the list is three years, and an extension for one additional year is permitted.
