SYNOPSIS
Prohibits electric public utilities from installing capacitor banks within 300 feet of a residential area.
CURRENT VERSION OF TEXT

An Act concerning certain 1[facilities] switching stations1 of electric public utilities and supplementing Title 48 of the Revised Statutes.
Be It Enacted by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:
1. a. Notwithstanding the provisions to the contrary of section 10 of P.L.1975, c.291 (C.40:55D-19) or any other law, or any rule, regulation, or order adopted pursuant thereto, an electric public utility shall not 1[locate any] expand a1 switching station 1[expansion consisting of] by installing1 one or more 500-kilovolt capacitor banks within 300 feet of the property line of any area zoned for residential use.
b. As used in this section:
"Capacitor" means an electronic component typically used to regulate the flow of electricity by insuring steady, consistent wattage through an electric circuit or part of a circuit.
"Capacitor bank" means an array of capacitors located at a switching station and connected into an electric circuit.
2. This act shall take effect on the 30th day after the date of enactment, but the Board of Public Utilities may take such anticipatory administrative action in advance thereof as shall be necessary for the implementation of this act.
