SYNOPSIS
Requires government records to be made available on the Internet.

An Act requiring government records to be made available on the Internet and supplementing P.L.1963, c.73 (C.47:1A-1 et seq.).
Be It Enacted by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:
1. In addition to any other responsibility conferred by P.L.1963, c.73 (C.47:1A-1 et seq.), the custodian of a government record shall make that record available to the public for inspection, examination, copying and printing at no charge by posting the government record, in a searchable format, on an Internet website maintained by, or made available to, the custodian.
A government record created after the effective date of this act shall be posted on the website as soon as possible but not later than 30 days after its creation. A government record that was created prior to the effective date of this act shall be posted on the website within six months of that effective date.
2. This act shall take effect on the 60th day after the date of enactment.
STATEMENT
This bill requires the custodian of a government record to make that record available to the public for inspection, examination, copying and printing at no charge by posting the government record, in a searchable format, on an Internet website maintained by, or made available to, the custodian.
It also provides that a government record created after the bill's effective date must be posted on the website as soon as possible but not later than 30 days after its creation and that a government record that was created prior to the bill's effective date must be posted on the website within six months of that effective date. The bill will take effect on the 60th day after enactment.
