     Requires Attorney General to provide certain information regarding certain charitable organizations to public on Internet.

An Act concerning certain charitable organizations and supplementing P.L.1994, c.16 (C.45:17A-18 et seq.).

 

     Be It Enacted by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:

 

     1.    The Attorney General shall make available to the public, through the Internet, the most recent Internal Revenue Service Form 990 submitted to the Attorney General by every nonprofit general hospital licensed pursuant to P.L.1971, c.136 (C.26:2H-1 et seq.) that is registered as a charitable organization in accordance with the requirements of P.L.1994, c.16 (C.45:17A-18 et seq.).

 

     2.    This act shall take effect on the first day of the third month following enactment.

 

 

STATEMENT

 

     This bill supplements the "Charitable Registration and Investigation Act," P.L.1994, c.16 (C.45:17A-18 et seq.), which regulates charitable organizations, to require the Attorney General to make available to the public, through the Internet, the most recent Internal Revenue Service Form 990 submitted to the Attorney General by every nonprofit general hospital licensed in this State that is registered as a charitable organization.

     The purpose of the bill is to provide easy access to the public, on the existing website maintained by the Division of Consumer Affairs in the Department of Law and Public Safety, of the IRS-990 forms that nonprofit hospitals submit annually to the Attorney General.
