SYNOPSIS

     Requires motor vehicle commission to issue exempt certificates for motor vehicles not required to be inspected.

An Act concerning certain motor vehicles and supplementing chapter 8 of Title 39 of the Revised Statutes.

 

     Be It Enacted by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:

 

     1.    The 1[chief administrator] Chief Administrator of the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission1 shall issue 1[exempt certificates] an exempt certificate1 for 1[those motorcycles; historic motor vehicles registered as such; collector motor vehicles designated as such pursuant to R.S.39:8-1; and diesel-powered, passenger motor vehicles plated as passenger, not-for profit, governmental, commuter van, farmer or farm truck model year 1996 and older with a Gross Vehicle Weight Rating of 9,999 pounds or less that are exempt from inspection] any motor vehicle that is exempt from inspection pursuant to law1.

     The exempt certificate shall be displayed in the same manner as are certificates of approval, unless the chief administrator shall otherwise prescribe.

     The chief administrator shall promulgate 1[such]1 rules and regulations as are necessary to effectuate the purposes of 1[this act] P.L.       c.   (C        )(pending before the Legislature as this bill)1.

 

     2.    This act shall take effect on the first day of the third month following enactment, but the Chief Administrator of the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission may take such administrative action in advance thereof as shall be necessary for the implementation of this act.
