SYNOPSIS
Designates July 2012 as "Smart Irrigation Month."

An Assembly Resolution designating July 2012 as "Smart Irrigation Month" in the State of New Jersey.
Whereas, Water is a finite natural resource vital to human life; and
Whereas, Well-maintained green spaces are important for the health and well-being of individuals and communities; and
Whereas, Appropriate irrigation technology, combined with best practices, can significantly reduce water usage and runoff while creating healthy lawns, landscaping, and sports turf; and
Whereas, Appropriate irrigation technology, along with best practices, can also improve water-use efficiency, and reduce runoff, while achieving greater agricultural yields per acre-foot of water used; and
Whereas, July is one of the peak months in water usage for irrigation purposes; and
Whereas, A growing number of New Jersey municipalities have adopted ordinances encouraging water conservation through smart irrigation; now, therefore,
Be It Resolved by the General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:
1. This House hereby designates July 2012 as "Smart Irrigation Month" in the State of New Jersey in recognition of the advances in irrigation technology and practices that help raise healthy plants and increase crop yields while using water more efficiently; and encourages the adoption of smart irrigation practices to further improve water use efficiency in agricultural, residential and commercial activities.
2. The Governor is requested to issue a proclamation calling upon public officials and the citizens of this State to observe "Smart Irrigation Month" with appropriate activities and programs.
STATEMENT
This resolution designates July 2012 as "Smart Irrigation Month" in the State of New Jersey. This resolution will serve to raise public awareness of the importance of water conservation and thoughtful irrigation practices during a month when water resources can be strained. Public officials and citizens are encouraged to observe "Smart Irrigation Month" with appropriate activities and programs.
