SYNOPSIS
Encourages use of decals on State vehicles to promote NJ as a travel destination.

An Assembly Resolution concerning the use of State vehicles to promote New Jersey as a travel destination.
Whereas, The tourism industry is the third largest industry in New Jersey and represents a vital component of the State's overall economy, providing billions of dollars in economic activity and State revenue, and creating a general sense of pride that results from New Jersey's desirability as a destination for millions of visitors; and
Whereas, Tourism enhances the quality of life in the State, supporting 486,000 direct and indirect jobs or nearly 10 percent of all New Jersey jobs, and 70 cents of every dollar brought into New Jersey through tourism is kept in the State; and
Whereas, New Jersey is home to an unrivaled magnitude of diverse artistic, heritage, historic, and cultural institutions and events located throughout the State, including those associated with dance, history, music, theater, and the visual and performing arts; and
Whereas, Natural destinations are among the most treasured places in New Jersey, including 127 miles of beautiful beaches, State and national parks, including a 72-mile stretch of the Appalachian National Scenic Trail, over 4,100 freshwater lakes, ponds, rivers, and streams, and more than 60 gardens and arboretums; and
Whereas, New Jersey's coastline boasts of sandy beaches, boardwalks, and quaint shore towns, and the shore is often recognized as a symbol of the State's identity and long-established as a critical component of the State's tourism industry; and
Whereas, New Jersey has a rich and storied history, including the State's role in the American Revolution, its importance as a stop along the Underground Railroad, its contributions to scientific and technological innovation, and its place as the gateway to the United States for immigrants passing through Ellis Island; and
Whereas, Amateurs and enthusiasts, adults and children, can all participate in a wide range of outdoor and recreational activities throughout the State, and both amateur and professional sports are played in New Jersey; and
Whereas, The State fleet is made up of thousands of vehicles, which are driven all over the State, and utilizing these State vehicles, whenever practicable, to display a bumper sticker or other decal or display encouraging the exploration of New Jersey's finest venues and experiences will increase exposure and promotion of New Jersey as a travel destination; and
Whereas, Encouraging millions of State residents and visitors to experience and celebrate the many artistic, cultural, historical, natural, and recreational attractions that New Jersey has to offer through additional exposure will further generate and increase tourism to the many unique institutions and venues, including the municipalities that host them and small businesses that neighbor them; and
Whereas, It is in the best interest of the State to advance tourism in New Jersey and to use State vehicles to display bumper stickers, magnets, window clings or other decals promoting New Jersey as a travel destination for visitors; now, therefore,
Be It Resolved by the General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:
1. This House urges the Division of Travel and Tourism in the Department of State to collaborate with the Commissioner of Transportation and the State Treasurer to create a decal or other types of displays to be placed on State vehicles, whenever practicable, to promote New Jersey as a travel destination for visitors.
2. Duly authenticated copies of this resolution, signed by the Speaker of the General Assembly and attested to by the Clerk thereof, shall be transmitted to the Governor, Lieutenant Governor, Commissioner of Transportation, State Treasurer, and Director of the Division of Travel and Tourism in the Department of State.
STATEMENT
This resolution would encourage the promotion of New Jersey as a travel destination by urging the Division of Travel and Tourism in the Department of State to collaborate with the Commissioner of Transportation and the State Treasurer to create a decal or other display to be placed on State vehicles whenever practicable.
