An Assembly Resolution proclaiming April 3 through April 9, 2017, to be "Public Health Week 2017" in New Jersey.

Whereas, "National Public Health Week 2017" is April 3 through April 9, 2017.  The  theme this year is "Healthiest Nation 2030," which establishes the goal of making the United States the healthiest nation in the world within one generation through efforts that include promoting increased physical activity; and

Whereas, State and local public health organizations use National Public Health Week to educate policymakers, public health professionals, and members of the public concerning issues that are important to improving the health of the people of the United States; and

Whereas, The value of a strong public health system is in the air we breathe, the water we drink, the food we eat, and the places where we all live, learn, work, and play; and

Whereas, Public health professionals help communities prevent, prepare for, withstand, and recover from the impact of a full range of health threats, including disease outbreaks, such as the Zika virus, natural disasters, and disasters caused by human activity; and

Whereas, Public health professionals collaborate with partners outside the health sector, including city planners, transportation officials, education officials, and private sector entities, to foster a comprehensive approach to developing and promoting strong public health systems; and

Whereas, Studies show that small strategic investments in prevention can result in significant savings in health care costs; and

Whereas, In communities across the State, people are changing the way they care for their health by avoiding tobacco use, eating healthier, becoming more physically active, and preventing unintentional injuries at home and in the workplace; and

Whereas, Efforts to adequately support public health and prevention can continue to transform a health system focused on treating illness to a health system focused on preventing disease and promoting wellness; and

Whereas, In recognition of these efforts, it is appropriate to proclaim April 3 through April 9, 2017, as "Public Health Week 2017" in New Jersey to coincide with "National Public Health Week 2017" and further improve, strengthen, and advance public health throughout the State;  now, therefore,

Be It Resolved by the General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:
