SYNOPSIS
Urges Governor and NJT to conduct marketing and investment campaign for Atlantic City Rail Line.
CURRENT VERSION OF TEXT
Introduced Pending Technical Review by Legislative Counsel.
An Assembly Resolution urging the Governor and the New Jersey Transit Corporation to conduct a marketing and investment campaign for the Atlantic City Rail Line.
Whereas, On June 20, 2019, the Legislature passed a budget for fiscal year 2020 ("FY2020") that includes a State operating subsidy to the New Jersey Transit Corporation ("NJ Transit") in the amount of $457.5 million, which is $50 million above the amount requested and proposed by the Governor earlier this year; and
Whereas, The $50 million in funding above the Governor's requested budgetary amount is in addition to the Governor's proposal of $25 million in increased funding to NJ Transit from the fiscal year 2019 ("FY2019") budget, totaling $75 million in additional funding to NJ Transit in the FY2020 budget compared to the FY2019 budget; and
Whereas, While there are many causes worthy of additional funding by NJ Transit, NJ Transit should dedicate a portion of the additional funding to conduct a marketing and investment campaign for the Atlantic City Rail Line ("ACRL"); and
Whereas, The ACRL is in need of a robust marketing and investment campaign, particularly in light of the harm caused to the ACRL and its passengers as a result of the lengthy suspension of service on the ACRL over the course of the fall, winter, and spring of this past fiscal year; and
Whereas, The ACRL connects a significant portion of the State's populace to the recovering economy of the City of Atlantic City as well as the burgeoning economies of the City of Camden and the City of Philadelphia, representing a substantial opportunity for economic growth in the State; and
Whereas, It is altogether fitting and proper for this House to respectfully urge the Governor and the Executive Director of NJ Transit to capitalize on this opportunity by conducting a marketing and investment campaign for the ACRL; now, therefore,
Be It Resolved by the General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:
1. This House respectfully urges the Governor and the Executive Director of the New Jersey Transit Corporation to conduct a marketing and investment campaign for the Atlantic City Rail Line.
2. Copies of this
resolution, as filed with the Secretary of State, shall be transmitted by the
Clerk of the General Assembly to the Governor and to the Executive Director of
the New Jersey Transit Corporation.
STATEMENT
This resolution urges the Governor and the Executive Director of the New Jersey Transit Corporation to conduct a marketing and investment campaign for the Atlantic City Rail Line.
