An Assembly Resolution opposing the closure of the North Plainfield and Plainfield post offices.

Whereas, The United States Postal Service recently announced it is considering closing nearly 3,700 post offices in an effort to reduce costs; and

Whereas, Post offices within the Borough of North Plainfield and the City of Plainfield are among the post offices potentially slated for closure; and

Whereas, The residents of North Plainfield and Plainfield rely on their local post offices for reasonable access to postal service; and

Whereas, The convenient location of and short distance to the North Plainfield and Plainfield post offices are particularly necessary for residents who are sick, disabled, elderly, or without means of transportation; and

Whereas, The North Plainfield and Plainfield post offices have been important to surrounding local businesses by helping to draw residents to their location; and

Whereas, Closing the North Plainfield and Plainfield post offices will place a heavy burden on many residents, result in the loss of jobs, and lead to longer lines and wait times at neighboring branches; and

Whereas, The United States Postal Service should seek alternative cost saving measures which do not deprive residents of North Plainfield and Plainfield access to postal services; and

Whereas, The United States Postal Service must make every effort to keep open the North Plainfield and Plainfield post offices in order to benefit residents with continued access to postal services, save jobs, and help local businesses; now, therefore,
