An Assembly Resolution urging the New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority to develop a "First Race of the Year" to occur at the Meadowlands Racetrack as new year's day begins.
Whereas, New Year's Eve is one of the most festive nighttime events of the year, a time when people of all ages get together to enjoy themselves, to say goodbye to the old year and to welcome in the new year; and
Whereas, The stroke of midnight on New Year's Eve is traditionally observed as a great time to make resolutions to guide a person through the remainder of the new year just beginning; and
Whereas, The Meadowlands Racetrack is the nation's leading year-round facility for nighttime horseracing and is the number one harness track in North America, in both total wagering and attendance; and
Whereas, Celebrating the start of the new year at the Meadowlands Racetrack can be an exciting way for many New Jersey residents and their visitors to usher in the new year; and
Whereas, Part of the celebration should be the chance to bet on a special race that starts with the beginning of the new year, which would make it the first race of the new year; and
Whereas, This House urges the New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority, which owns and operates the Meadowlands Racetrack, to develop a special "First Race of the Year" to occur at the Meadowlands Racetrack as new year's day begins; now, therefore,
Be It Resolved by the General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:
1. This House urges the New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority to develop a special "First Race of the Year" to occur at the Meadowlands Racetrack as new year's day begins.
2. Duly authenticated copies of this resolution, signed by the Speaker of the General Assembly and attested by the Clerk thereof, shall be transmitted to each member of the New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority.

This resolution urges the New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority to develop a special "First Race of the Year" to occur at the Meadowlands Racetrack as new year's day begins.
