CURRENT VERSION OF TEXT

A Joint Resolution designating October of each year as "New Jersey Energy Action Month."

Whereas, Each year, the President of the United States has recognized October as National Energy Action Month to increase the public's awareness of issues concerning energy security, energy efficiency, climate change, and the environmental consequences related to energy consumption and conservation; and

Whereas, October is a time of year when concern about energy use and related costs increases due to the approaching winter, a concern that particularly affects individuals and families facing financial hardship; and

Whereas, National Energy Action Month recognizes the contributions of individuals, organizations, and companies that are committed to advancing energy innovation and efficiency and promotes the importance of a clean energy economy in our country; and

Whereas, New Jersey has a robust Clean Energy Program, which, in part, supports and incentivizes the development of solar, wind, biomass, and other renewable energy industries in this State; and

Whereas, Supporting the further development of clean energy industries in this State will have a positive impact on the State economy by growing cutting-edge scientific and engineering firms and strengthening and diversifying the State economy; and

Whereas, To encourage the conservation of energy, New Jersey offers residents rebates and incentives for upgrading appliances to more energy efficient models and upgrading building materials and systems to more energy efficient products; and

Whereas, New Jersey SHARES, Inc., a State-wide non-profit organization dedicated to energy issues, has acted as a strong advocate of National Energy Action Month by encouraging New Jersey individuals and families to conserve energy, combat climate change, and improve the environment; and

Whereas, Efforts to raise awareness of energy consumption and methods by which individuals, families, and businesses can conserve energy will have a positive impact on the amount of money individuals, families, and businesses spend on energy bills; and

Whereas, A State-wide collective effort through cooperation between State government, private industry, and State citizens is necessary to achieve the goal of low-cost and sustainable energy; now, therefore,

Be It Resolved by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:

STATEMENT

This joint resolution designates October of each year as "New Jersey Energy Action Month" to increase the public's awareness of issues concerning energy security, energy efficiency, climate change, the environmental consequences related to energy consumption and conservation, and to celebrate New Jersey's clean energy industries.

New Jersey has a robust Clean Energy Program, supporting and incentivizing, in part, the development of solar, wind, biomass, and other renewable energy industries in this State.  Supporting the development of clean energy industries in this State will have a positive impact on the State economy by growing cutting-edge scientific and engineering firms and strengthening and diversifying the State economy.

To encourage the conservation of energy, New Jersey offers residents rebates and incentives for upgrading appliances to more energy efficient models and upgrading building materials and systems to more energy efficient products.  NJ SHARES, a State-wide non-profit organization dedicated to energy issues, has acted as a strong advocate of National Energy Action Month by encouraging New Jersey individuals and families to recommit to increasing energy security, combating climate change, and improving the environment.  Efforts to raise awareness of energy consumption and methods in which individuals, families, and businesses can conserve energy will have a positive impact on the amount of money individuals, families, and businesses spend on energy bills.

October is a time of year when concern about energy use and related costs increases due to the approaching winter, a concern that particularly affects individuals and families facing financial hardship.
