STATEMENT

This concurrent resolution recognizes the centennial of the Township of Wyckoff.  Wyckoff is located in northwest Bergen County, New Jersey.  It was originally inhabited by the Lenape  and was the site of the Sicomac "happy hunting ground" where many of the Lenape, including Oratam, Chief of the Ackingshacys, were buried.  In 1720, the first European settlers within Wyckoff were recorded as John and William Van Voor Haze.  In 1771, Franklin Township consisted of what is today Ho-Ho-Kus, Ridgewood, Midland Park, Oakland, Franklin Lakes, and Wyckoff and over time, these areas seceded and were incorporated as their own municipalities.  By 1922, Franklin Township included only the area known locally as Wyckoff.  In 1926, voters approved the name change of Franklin Township to Wyckoff through a referendum.  Present day Wyckoff is a bustling suburb with modern shopping centers and manicured landscapes, where many types of businesses thrive.  Over the past 100 years, many New Jersey residents have come to call Wyckoff their home.  Wyckoff is celebrating its centennial year in 2026.  Thus, it is fitting and proper for this State to commemorate the centennial anniversary of the Township of Wyckoff.
