Requires paraprofessionals employed by educational services commissions to receive by May 15 either contract for employment for next year or written notice that employment will not be offered.

An Act concerning teaching paraprofessionals and supplementing chapter 27 of Title 18A of the New Jersey Statutes.
Be It Enacted by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:
1. a. As used in this section, "paraprofessional" means an individual who is employed by an educational services commission as a school aide or classroom aide who assists a teaching staff member with the supervision of pupil activities.
b. On or before May 15 in each year, a paraprofessional continuously employed since the preceding September 30 by an educational services commission shall receive either:
(1) a written offer of a contract for employment from the board of directors for the next succeeding year providing for at least the same terms and conditions of employment but with such increases in salary as may be required by law or policies of the board of directors; or
(2) a written notice from the superintendent or chief school administrator, as appropriate, that employment will not be offered.
2. This act shall take effect immediately.
STATEMENT
This bill provides that on or before May 15 of each year, a paraprofessional employed by an educational services commission who has been continuously employed since the preceding September 30 will receive either a written offer of a contract for employment from the board of directors for the next succeeding school year, or a written notice from the superintendent or chief school administrator, as appropriate, that employment will not be offered.
