SYNOPSIS

     Prohibits public institutions of higher education from requiring students to purchase meal plans.

An Act concerning meal plans at public institutions of higher education and supplementing chapter 3B of Title 18A of the New Jersey Statutes. 

 

     Be It Enacted by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:

 

     1.    A public institution of higher education shall not require any student enrolled in the institution to purchase a meal plan.  As used in this section, "public institution of higher education" means Rutgers, The State University, the New Jersey Institute of Technology, Rowan University, Montclair State University, the State colleges and universities, the county colleges, and any other public university or college now or hereafter established or authorized by law.

 

     2.    This act shall take effect immediately but shall first apply to the first full academic year following the date of enactment. 

 

 

STATEMENT

 

     This bill would prohibit public institutions of higher education from requiring any student enrolled in the institution to purchase a meal plan.  Public institutions of higher education include Rutgers, The State University, the New Jersey Institute of Technology, Rowan University, Montclair State University, the State colleges and universities, the county colleges, and any other public university or college now or hereafter established or authorized by law.
