Be It Enacted by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:

     1.    There shall be annually appropriated to the Department of Environmental Protection from the General Fund the sum of $3,000,000 for the State Mosquito Control Commission to provide funding to local governments for mosquito control, research, administration, and operations.

     2.    This act shall take effect immediately.

STATEMENT

This bill annually appropriates $3 million to the Department of Environmental Protection to provide funding to the State Mosquito Control Commission for aid to local governments for mosquito control, research, administration, and operations.

In most cases, each county has its own mosquito control commission or agency, which operates under the authority of the county government.  The commission provides grants and other financial assistance to support mosquito control activities at the county level.  This bill would require the appropriation of $3 million per year to support those activities.
