SYNOPSIS
"Joe Piscopo Utility Emergency Call Center Act of 2025"; requires percentage of electric and gas public utilities' emergency call centers to be located within NJ.

An Act concerning certain public utilities' emergency call centers and supplementing Title 48 of the Revised Statutes.
Be It Enacted by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:
1. This act shall be known and may be cited as the "Joe Piscopo Utility Emergency Call Center Act of 2025."
2. a. As used in this section:
"Electric public utility" means a public utility, as that term is defined in R.S.48:2-13, that transmits and distributes electricity to end users within the State.
"Emergency call center" means a facility or other operation whereby workers receive telephone calls or emails or other electronic communication for the purpose of providing customer assistance or another service, including in the event of an emergency.
"Gas public utility" means a public utility, as that term is defined in R.S.48:2-13, that distributes gas to end users within the State.
b. Each electric public utility and each gas public utility shall maintain 40 percent of emergency call center operations within New Jersey.
3. This act shall take effect 180 days following enactment.
STATEMENT
This bill, which is designated as the "Joe Piscopo Utility Emergency Call Center Act of 2025," requires each electric and gas public utility to maintain a percentage of its emergency call center operations within New Jersey.
