STATEMENT
This bill provides additional State transportation aid to school districts in which the number of nonpublic school students who are eligible for transportation services exceeds the number of public school students eligible for transportation.
If the number of nonpublic school students eligible for transportation services exceeds the number of public school students eligible for transportation, then the district would receive an additional amount of State aid equal to 50 percent of the difference between the amount of State transportation aid received by the school district on a per pupil basis and the actual cost of providing transportation to nonpublic school students on a per pupil basis, multiplied by the number of nonpublic school students who are eligible for transportation. In the case of a school district in which the number of nonpublic school students eligible for transportation services exceeds the number of public school students eligible for transportation by 25 percent or more, the district would receive 100 percent of the difference between those amounts.
