STATEMENT
This bill prohibits remote work for employees of the State and of political subdivisions operating under the "Civil Service Act."
Under current law, the Civil Service Commission is required to adopt rules for States employees' hours of work. In 2022, the Civil Service Commission approved and established the Model Telework Pilot Program, which offers the option for State employees to work remotely up to two working days per week. A rule for the telework program was approved in 2025.
Under the bill, remote work will be prohibited for any employees in the civil service of the State and of any political subdivision that has adopted the provisions of the "Civil Service Act." The commission will also be prohibited from establishing rules that permit remote work for State employees.
