STATEMENT
This bill makes a supplemental appropriation of $25 million from the General Fund to the Department of Education to support extraordinary special education costs aid in FY 2019. The current appropriations act includes only $195 million for extraordinary special education costs aid, while the Department of Education has received and approved applications from school districts to reimburse more than $387.6 million for the costs of educating special education students that exceed certain thresholds. This supplemental appropriation will eliminate some of the shortfall.
