STATEMENT
This bill requires that, if a polling place is located in a public school, the school district take all steps to ensure adequate security for the protection of the students when the school is open as a polling place. The bill also provides that any expenses incurred by a school district in carrying out the bill's provisions will be deducted from the bill which is submitted to the school district by the county board of elections for the costs incurred by the county board in conducting certain school elections in the district. Under existing law, section 12 of P.L.1995, c.278, school districts are required to reimburse the county board of elections for costs associated with the operation of any school election held at a time other than the general election. Under this bill, the costs incurred by the school district in providing additional security will be deducted from the county board of election's bill.
