SYNOPSIS
Establishes "Jersey Canned Goods Program."

An Act establishing the "Jersey Canned Goods Program" and supplementing Title 4 of the Revised Statutes.
Be It Enacted by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:
1. The Secretary of Agriculture in conjunction with the State Board of Agriculture shall develop and implement a "Jersey Canned Goods Program" and, pursuant to the "Administrative Procedure Act," P.L.1968, c.410 (C.52:14B-1 et seq.), adopt rules and regulations for its implementation, including, but not necessarily limited to, rules and regulations that:
a. encourage and promote the sale of canned goods that contain foods grown or produced in New Jersey;
b. increase consumer awareness of New Jersey canned goods through advertising campaigns and marketing programs;
c. provide for the dissemination of information about the variety and availability of New Jersey canned goods; and
d. create a labeling program to identify canned goods containing New Jersey agricultural commodities similar to the Jersey Fresh program.
2. This act shall take effect immediately.
STATEMENT
This bill would establish the "Jersey Canned Goods Program" in the Department of Agriculture. The bill requires the department to adopt regulations that would: (1) encourage and promote the sale of canned goods that contain foods grown or produced in New Jersey; (2) increase consumer awareness of New Jersey canned goods through advertising campaigns and marketing programs; (3) provide for the dissemination of information about the variety and availability of New Jersey canned goods; and (4) create a labeling program to identify canned goods containing New Jersey agricultural commodities similar to the Jersey Fresh program.
