SYNOPSIS

     Directs DOE to establish advertising campaign to attract candidates to teaching and education support professions; appropriates $1 million.

An Act establishing an advertising campaign for the teaching 1[profession] and education support professions1 and supplementing chapter 6 of Title 18A of the New Jersey Statutes.

 

     Be It Enacted by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:

 

     1.  a.  The Department of Education, in consultation with the Office of the Secretary of Higher Education, shall establish a multimedia advertising campaign to attract candidates to the teaching 1[profession] and education support professions1.  The campaign shall promote the teaching 1[profession] and education support professions1 as 1[an]1 engaging, dynamic, and rewarding career 1[opportunity] opportunities. The campaign shall promote available scholarships, student loan redemption programs, and other available financial support opportunities for those seeking careers in the teaching and education support professions1.  The campaign shall use a combination of digital outlets, television, radio, print, and other media for its purposes. 

     b.    The department, in developing and administering the general advertising campaign, shall also create targeted advertising to increase the recruitment of teachers 1and education support professionals1:

     (1)   from underrepresented racial groups; 1[and]1

     (2)   into high-demand fields, including special education, teaching careers in the science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) field, 1world languages, bilingual education,1 and any other high-demand fields identified by the Commissioner of Education 1; and

     (3)   into high-demand fields of education support professions, as identified by the commissioner1.  

 

     2.    To effectuate the provisions of this act, there is appropriated to the Department of Education the sum of $1,000,000 1[from the funds] which shall be, to the extent permitted by federal law, paid for from monies1 received by the State under the federal "American Rescue Plan (ARP) Act," Pub.L.117-2.

 

     3.    This act shall take effect immediately.
