     Requires gender balance for New Jersey commissioners at PANYNJ.

An Act concerning the board of commissioners for the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey and amending R.S.32:2‑2.

 

     Be It Enacted by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:

 

     1.  R.S.32:2-2 is amended to read as follows:

     There shall be six commissioners of the port authority from this state, as provided by Article IV of the compact of April 30, 1921 between the states of New York and New Jersey, as amended.

     No more than three of the commissioners from this State may be members of the same gender.

     2.  Each individual serving as a commissioner of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey from this State on the effective date of this act may continue to serve until the expiration of the commissioner's term, notwithstanding the requirements of section 1 of this act.  Each vacancy occurring in the membership of the board of commissioners of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey following the effective date of this act shall be filled by the Governor, with the advice and consent of the Senate, in furtherance of the requirement of gender balance as set forth in section 1 of this act. 

 

     3.  This act shall take effect immediately.

 

 

STATEMENT

 

     This bill requires the total membership of the New Jersey members of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey (Port Authority) board of commissioners to have an equal number of men and women.  The bill provides that no more than three commissioners from New Jersey may be of the same gender.
