SYNOPSIS

     Repeals State moratorium prohibiting taking of horseshoe crabs from State waters.

An Act concerning the taking, landing, and possession of horseshoe crabs in the State, and repealing P.L.2008, c.1.

 

     Be It Enacted by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:

 

     1.    P.L.2008, c.1 (C.23:2B-20 and C.23:2B-21) is repealed.

 

     2.    This act shall take effect immediately.

 

 

STATEMENT

 

     This bill would repeal P.L.2008, c.1, which established a moratorium on the taking, landing, and possession of horseshoe crabs in the State.  After this bill is enacted into law and the moratorium is eliminated, State fishermen will once again be authorized to catch horseshoe crabs in an amount that is consistent with the federal horseshoe crab fishing quotas established by the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission.
