STATEMENT

Section 8 of P.L.2009, c.330 (C.30:4-123.51d) established an early release program for certain inmates incarcerated in State correctional facilities.

The program was established to subject nonviolent inmates who were scheduled to be released into the community without transitional supervision as "max-outs" to a six month period of parole.

Two inmates who were granted early releases under this program have been charged with murder in recent weeks.
