     Establishes "County Career Technical Education Annual Recognition Awards" to annually recognize best programs implemented by county vocational school districts.

An Act concerning county vocational school districts and supplementing chapter 54 of Title 18A of the New Jersey Statutes.

 

     Be It Enacted by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:

 

     1.    a.   The Department of Education, in consultation with the Department of Labor and Workforce Development, shall establish an awards program to be known as the "County Career Technical Education Annual Recognition Awards."  The awards program shall annually recognize county vocational school districts with outstanding career and technical education programs which, at a minimum:

     (1)   integrate rigorous academic and technical content to prepare students for continued education, training, and employment in high-demand career pathways that address the demands of business and industry;

     (2)   incorporate partnerships with labor, business, industry, or a college or university; and

     (3)   demonstrate quantifiable success of students who complete the program earning an industry-recognized credential, passing a technical skills assessment, or continuing their education at the postsecondary level.

     b.    The department shall establish an application procedure and criteria and guidelines for the eligibility, nomination, and judging of applications for the awards program.

     c.     The department shall post the names of the recipients of the "County Career Technical Education Annual Recognition Awards" prominently on the department's website, and shall recognize the recipients through the award of a certificate, a press announcement, or another form of recognition deemed appropriate to highlight the achievements of the recipients.  The department may coordinate with the Department of Labor and Workforce Development in recognizing the award recipients.

 

     2.    This act shall take effect immediately.

 

 

STATEMENT

 

     This bill requires the Department of Education, in consultation with the Department of Labor and Workforce Development, to establish an awards program to be known as the "County Career Technical Education Annual Recognition Awards."  The awards program will annually recognize county vocational school districts with outstanding career and technical education programs which, at a minimum:

·        integrate rigorous academic and technical content to prepare students for continued education, training, and employment in high-demand career pathways that address the demands of business and industry; 

·        incorporate partnerships with labor, business, industry, or a college or university; and

·        demonstrate quantifiable success of students who complete the program earning an industry-recognized credential, passing a technical skills assessment, or continuing their education at the postsecondary level.
