1.1A Senate resolution
1.2honoring Katie Miron of Hugo, Minnesota, for being crowned the 57th Princess
1.3Kay of the Milky Way.
1.4WHEREAS, candidates for Princess Kay of the Milky Way, a program sponsored by
1.5the Midwest Dairy Association, are judged on their general knowledge of the dairy industry,
1.6communication skills, personality, and enthusiasm for dairy promotion; and
1.7WHEREAS, twelve county dairy princesses competed for the Princess Kay title this
1.8year, and Katie Miron, a 19-year-old college student from Hugo, was crowned the winner at the
1.9Minnesota State Fairgrounds; and
1.10WHEREAS, with her older sister, Ann, being named Princess Kay three years ago, it
1.11marks just the second time two people from the same family have earned the title; and
1.12WHEREAS, one of Katie's first duties as Princess Kay was to sit in a rotating cooler for
1.13nearly eight hours so that her likeness could be carved in a 90-pound block of butter; and
1.14WHEREAS, as Princess Kay, Katie, who represents Washington County, will serve as the
1.15official goodwill ambassador for Minnesota's nearly 5,000 dairy farmers, while she continues
1.16her education at the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities, where she is majoring in agricultural
1.17education; and
1.18NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the State of Minnesota that it
1.19honors Katie Miron of Hugo, Minnesota, for being crowned the 57th Princess Kay of the Milky
1.20Way and extends best wishes to her for the future.
1.21BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is directed to prepare an
1.22enrolled copy of this resolution, to be authenticated by the Secretary's signature and that of the
1.23Chair of the Senate Rules and Administration Committee, and transmit it to Katie Miron.
