1.1A Senate resolution
1.2honoring the memory of Pfc. Ryane G. Clark.
1.3WHEREAS, those who risk their lives and give selflessly of their time and energy to defend
1.4our nation's precious freedoms in the armed forces perform an important service deserving of special
1.5legislative recognition; and
1.6WHEREAS, Pfc. Ryane G. Clark, a 2007 graduate of New London-Spicer High School,
1.7enlisted in October 2009 and was assigned to the 27th Engineer Battalion as a combat engineer;
1.8and
1.9WHEREAS, on October 4, 2010, one day short of the first anniversary of his enlistment,
1.10Ryane was killed in Shekhabad, south of the capital of Kabul, when he succumbed to wounds
1.11suffered when insurgents attacked his unit with small-arms fire and rocket-propelled grenades; and
1.12WHEREAS, according to Col. Richard Kaiser, commander of the 20th Engineer Brigade,
1.13Ryane was performing a very noble and dangerous mission - clearing roadside bombs to make
1.14Afghanistan safer for Afghans and Americans - when his convoy was hit by enemy fire; and
1.15WHEREAS, Ryane was well-loved by all his fellow sappers and comrades and was one of
1.16their best young troopers. He is missed but will always be remembered fondly for his courage,
1.17professionalism, and dedication; and
1.18WHEREAS, Ryane, the first known war fatality from New London-Spicer High School in
1.19recent memory, received many decorations including the Bronze Star Medal Posthumous, Purple
1.20Heart Posthumous, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and Global
1.21War on Terrorism Service Medal; and
1.22NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the State of Minnesota that it
1.23honors the memory of Pfc. Ryane G. Clark and commends his generous service to this country,
1.24and extends sincere condolences to his family and to all who knew him.
2.1BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is directed to prepare an
2.2enrolled copy of this resolution, to be authenticated by the Secretary's signature and that of the
2.3Chair of the Senate Rules and Administration Committee, and transmit it to the family of Pfc. Ryane
2.4G. Clark.
