1.1A Senate resolution
1.2honoring Specialist Joseph Kennedy of Inver Grove Heights, who was
1.3killed in the line of duty in Afghanistan.
1.4WHEREAS, men and women who serve in the United States armed forces are to be
1.5commended for their heroic service in defense of our country and in the spread of freedom and
1.6democracy throughout the world; and
1.7WHEREAS, Joseph Kennedy wrestled for Simley High School, graduating in 2004, and
1.8loved motorcycles, welding, and guitars; and
1.9WHEREAS, he joined the Army in 2009 and, in the words of his mother, enjoyed "living
1.10life with the volume turned up full blast"; and
1.11WHEREAS, on April 15, 2011, at the age of 25, Joseph died from injuries sustained in a
1.12firefight with enemy forces in the Ghazni province of Afghanistan; and
1.13WHEREAS, in recognition of his devotion to duty, Joseph Kennedy has been posthumously
1.14awarded the Army Good Conduct Badge, the Combat Infantryman Badge, the Purple Heart, and
1.15the Bronze Star; and
1.16NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the State of Minnesota
1.17that it mourns the death of Specialist Joseph Kennedy and commends his generous service to
1.18this country. It extends sincere condolences to his parents, Jim and Valerie, his brother, Casey,
1.19and to all who knew him.
1.20BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is directed to prepare
1.21an enrolled copy of this resolution, to be authenticated by the Secretary's signature and that
1.22of the Chair of the Senate Rules and Administration Committee, and transmit it to the family
1.23of Joseph Kennedy.
