1.1A Senate resolution
1.2congratulating Crissa Knott of Kenyon on being named Ms. Wheelchair
1.3Minnesota 2013
1.4WHEREAS, the Ms. Wheelchair Minnesota pageant, begun in 2011, judges contestants
1.5on advocacy, accomplishments, self-confidence, and the ability to speak with others about
1.6disabilities, and those elements are evaluated through the platform speech, individual judging
1.7interview, "Table of Life" display, and the on-stage final question; and
1.8WHEREAS, Crissa Knott, who was one of five contestants, has spastic quadriplegic cerebral
1.9palsy, but being in a wheelchair has certainly not stopped her from pursuing her education; and
1.10WHEREAS, Crissa graduated from Kenyon-Wanamingo High School in 2008, is currently
1.11on the dean's list at Winona State University, and plans to graduate this year with a B.A. in
1.12Psychology; and
1.13WHEREAS, she has already been accepted to the Counselor's Education Graduate
1.14Program at WSU, and after she earns her Master's, she envisions being a professional counselor in
1.15a community setting; and
1.16WHEREAS, at the pageant, held on March 9, 2013, at Park Plaza Hotel in Bloomington,
1.17Crissa chose "Encouraging disabled people to go to college" as her platform, saying that her
1.18platform has many different aspects to it, and she wants to highlight all of them; and
1.19WHEREAS, she is very excited about representing the viewpoint of disabled people to
1.20state legislators, and on her agenda are things like the ability to pay a personal care assistant to
1.21attend college classes and help a disabled student with tasks like writing and typing; and
1.22WHEREAS, in her official capacity, Crissa will appear and speak at numerous
1.23engagements throughout her 2013-2014 reign, and this July, she will represent Minnesota in the
1.24Ms. Wheelchair America pageant in Texas; and
1.25NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the State of Minnesota that it
1.26congratulates Crissa Knott of Kenyon on being named Ms. Wheelchair Minnesota 2013.
1.27BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is directed to prepare an
1.28enrolled copy of this resolution, to be authenticated by the Secretary's signature and that of the
1.29Chair of the Senate Rules and Administration Committee, and transmit it to Crissa Knott.
