1.1A Senate resolution
1.2honoring Stearns County Sheriff John Sanner on the occasion of his retirement.
1.3WHEREAS, those who uphold the highest standards of excellence while dutifully protecting
1.4and serving the public in the field of law enforcement are deserving of special legislative recognition;
1.5and
1.6WHEREAS, Sheriff Sanner began in Stearns County as a patrol deputy in 1984, became
1.7sergeant in 1989, detective in 1991, and captain in 1999. He was elected sheriff in 2002; and
1.8WHEREAS, Sheriff Sanner, whose long career was shaped and shadowed by the decades-long
1.9search for an abducted child, Jacob Wetterling, has announced his plans to retire in April; and
1.10WHEREAS, Sheriff Sanner's wife Juli retired a year ago and their plan always was for him
1.11to do the same about a year after her. He and Juli plan to spend more time with their five
1.12grandchildren; and
1.13WHEREAS, on April 17, 2017, Stearns County Sheriff John Sanner will be stepping down
1.14after 32 years of outstanding work in the Stearns County Sheriff's Office and will be missed by the
1.15sheriff's office and the community it serves; and
1.16NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the State of Minnesota that it
1.17thanks and commends Stearns County Sheriff John Sanner on his exceptional career in law
1.18enforcement, and extends best wishes to him for his retirement.
1.19BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is directed to prepare an
1.20enrolled copy of this resolution, to be authenticated by the Secretary's signature and that of the
1.21Chair of the Senate Rules and Administration Committee, and transmit it to Sheriff John Sanner.
