1.1A Senate resolution
1.2congratulating Dave Hoagland of Anoka, Minnesota, on his 100th birthday
1.3WHEREAS, our communities are blessed by the presence of those who have lived long lives
1.4and who are part of our living history; and
1.5WHEREAS, having a 100th birthday is a joyous occasion and a time to honor and congratulate
1.6the celebrant; and
1.7WHEREAS, Dave Hoagland was born on July 9, 1920, in Brook Park, Minnesota, and
1.8despite being the youngest of three sons, he soon grew to an impressive 6'2" and made the move
1.9to a larger city with a bigger high school to play football; and
1.10WHEREAS, Dave went on to work for the CCC: Civilian Conservation Corps, driving heavy
1.11earth-moving equipment before joining the United States Army Air Corps, where he was able to
1.12put his experience and expertise with machinery to good use during World War II; and
1.13WHEREAS, after the war, Dave turned to a career in law enforcement, working for the
1.14Anoka County Sheriff's Office before joining the Anoka Police Department in 1955, where he was
1.15soon promoted to Sergeant and then to Chief of Police in 1964; and
1.16WHEREAS, Dave served as Anoka Chief of Police until his retirement in 1979, earning
1.17respect and admiration during his many years of work in the police department and service to his
1.18community; and
1.19NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the State of Minnesota that it
1.20sends best wishes to Dave Hoagland of Anoka, Minnesota, on his 100th birthday; and
1.21BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is directed to prepare an
1.22enrolled copy of this resolution, to be authenticated by the Secretary's signature and that of the
1.23Chair of the Senate Rules and Administration Committee, and transmit it to Dave Hoagland and
1.24his family.
