1.1A Senate resolution
1.2recognizing Linnea Urban as the 2021 Athena Award recipient.
1.3WHEREAS, athletic and academic accomplishments are worthy of legislative recognition;
1.4and
1.5WHEREAS, the Athena Award is annually awarded to outstanding female high school
1.6student-athletes in recognition of their achievements in academics and athletics; and
1.7WHEREAS, Linnea Urban is a senior at Hastings High School where she maintains a 4.0
1.8GPA and is involved in the National Honor Society and numerous volunteer activities; and
1.9WHEREAS, Linnea has earned 13 varsity letters and is a nine-time individual conference
1.10champion in cross-country, nordic ski, and track and field; and
1.11WHEREAS, in cross-country, Linnea served as team captain for three years, earned four
1.12All-Conference Awards, was a two-time Metro East Conference individual conference champion,
1.13and was awarded Runner of the Year; and
1.14WHEREAS, in nordic ski, Linnea served as team captain for four years, earned four
1.15All-Conference Awards, was a three-time Metro East Conference individual conference champion,
1.16and achieved two All-State Awards with a personal best 16th overall finish at the state meet; and
1.17WHEREAS, in track and field, Linnea served as captain for two years, was a three-time
1.18Metro East Conference individual champion in the 1600-meter run, a Metro East Conference
1.19individual champion in the 3200-meter run, and her 2018 girls' team was Metro East Conference
1.20conference champions; and
1.21WHEREAS, Linnea will be honored at the St. Paul Athena Banquet and at a site-based
1.22recognition ceremony at Hastings High School in the spring of this year; and
2.1WHEREAS, Linnea plans to attend the College of St. Scholastica where she will run
2.2cross-country and also nordic ski; and
2.3NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the State of Minnesota that it
2.4congratulates Linnea Urban on receiving the 2021 Athena Award and extends her best wishes for
2.5the future.
2.6BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is directed to prepare an
2.7enrolled copy of this resolution, to be authenticated by the Secretary's signature and that of the
2.8Chair of the Senate Rules and Administration Committee, and transmit it to Linnea Urban.
