1.1A Senate resolution
1.2recognizing the valuable work of supermarket employees and celebrating Monday,
1.3February 22, 2021, as Supermarket Employee Day.
1.4WHEREAS, there are nearly six million supermarket employees in the United States; and
1.5WHEREAS, in Minnesota there are over 106,000 food retail jobs that generate $7,600,000
1.6in economic activity; and
1.7WHEREAS, supermarket employees provide all Americans with access to safe, healthy,
1.8and affordable food; and
1.9WHEREAS, supermarket employees work to enhance the health and well-being of each
1.10customer; and
1.11WHEREAS, supermarket employees contribute and volunteer countless hours in their
1.12communities; and
1.13WHEREAS, supermarket employees have faced unprecedented challenges keeping grocery
1.14shelves stocked during the COVID-19 pandemic; and
1.15WHEREAS, supermarket employees have met and continue to meet and exceed these
1.16challenges, while displaying courage, compassion, dedication, and leadership, as well as exemplifying
1.17customer service and community outreach; and
1.18WHEREAS, the need for supermarket employees is greater than ever because of current
1.19and growing consumer demands as well as their reputation for excellence; and
1.20NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the State of Minnesota that it
1.21recognizes the valuable work that supermarket employees contribute to their communities and the
1.22celebration of Supermarket Employee Day on Monday, February 22, 2021.
2.1BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is directed to prepare an
2.2enrolled copy of this resolution, to be authenticated by the Secretary's signature and that of the
2.3Chair of the Senate Rules and Administration Committee, and transmit it to the Minnesota Grocers
2.4Association.
