1.1A Senate resolution
1.2honoring barber Ken Kirkpatrick on the occasion of his (semi) retirement.
1.3WHEREAS, Ken Kirkpatrick opened his barber shop in the basement of the State Office
1.4Building in 1972; and
1.5WHEREAS, over the past 44 years, in addition to the practice of his profession, Ken has
1.6gained a reputation as a confidant, conversationalist, and comedian; and
1.7WHEREAS, he is a member of the National Barber Hall of Fame, has presided over the
1.8National Association of Barber Boards, and has served on the state Board of Barber Examiners
1.9for the past 30 years; and
1.10WHEREAS, Ken is a Capitol Complex authority on barber licensing and inspection and a
1.11champion of the red, white, and blue rotating pole as a symbol of barbers everywhere; and
1.12WHEREAS, he is an army veteran and regularly volunteers his services twice a week,
1.13giving free haircuts at veterans homes; and
1.14WHEREAS, Ken plans to "semiretire" from his regular position on May 16, 2016,
1.15thereafter appearing only a few times a week to work for the shop's new owner, Ken's son Josh; and
1.16NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the State of Minnesota that
1.17it salutes Ken Kirkpatrick for 44 years of haircuts, humor, and harmony at the State Capitol
1.18Complex and honors him on the occasion of his (semi) retirement.
1.19BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is directed to prepare an
1.20enrolled copy of this resolution, to be authenticated by the Secretary's signature and that of the
1.21Chair of the Senate Rules and Administration Committee, and transmit it to Ken Kirkpatrick.
