1.1A Senate resolution
1.2commemorating the 50th anniversary of the establishment of the National Wild Turkey
1.3Federation.
1.4WHEREAS, the National Wild Turkey Federation, Inc., was incorporated on March 28,
1.51973, in Fredericksburg, Virginia; and
1.6WHEREAS, over the course of 50 years, the National Wild Turkey Federation and millions
1.7of members and chapters across the nation have worked with state, federal, and nongovernmental
1.8partners to promote the conservation of the wild turkey and the preservation of hunting heritage,
1.9resulting in one of the greatest conservation success stories in American history: the return of the
1.10wild turkey from the brink of extinction; and
1.11WHEREAS, the National Wild Turkey Federation has been at the vanguard of reversing
1.12declining hunting participation through nationwide investment in hunter recruitment, retention, and
1.13reactivation efforts and by partnering with states to develop opportunities to engage people from
1.14all walks of life in the outdoors tradition. Since 2012, the National Wild Turkey Federation has
1.15recruited and reactivated more than 1.5 million hunters; and
1.16WHEREAS, the National Wild Turkey Federation has invested more than half a billion
1.17dollars to conserve or enhance more than 22 million acres of critical wildlife habitat, forests, and
1.18grasslands across public and private lands since 1985, and has also invested more than $8.5 million
1.19in research throughout North America to ensure healthy wild turkey populations into the future;
1.20and
1.21WHEREAS, the National Wild Turkey Federation is the largest and longest-serving
1.22nongovernmental stewardship partner of the USDA Forest Service, conserving habitat on National
1.23Forest System Lands for more than 40 years and heavily engaged in the development and
1.24implementation of the USDA's Wildfire Crisis Strategy; and
2.1NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the State of Minnesota that it
2.2celebrates the 50th anniversary of the establishment of the National Wild Turkey Federation and
2.3recognizes its significant contributions to scientific wildlife management, research, and habitat
2.4conservation.
2.5BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is directed to prepare an
2.6enrolled copy of this resolution, to be authenticated by the Secretary's signature and that of the
2.7Chair of the Senate Rules and Administration Committee, and transmit it to the National Wild
2.8Turkey Federation.
