1.1A Senate resolution
1.2honoring the life of Ellsworth Erickson.
1.3WHEREAS, Ellsworth Burch Erickson grew up in North St. Paul in a close-knit family; and
1.4WHEREAS, Erickson was drafted in 1943 and upon graduation from North St. Paul High
1.5School he began his training for the Army Air Corps; and
1.6WHEREAS, in the European Theater during World War II, he served with an air
1.7reconnaissance crew, taking and analyzing aerial photographs of strategically significant targets
1.8and surveying the results of bombing missions completed; and
1.9WHEREAS, after the war, photography remained a lifelong passion for Ellsworth; and
1.10WHEREAS, for 35 years he taught art, photography, and journalism at Mounds View
1.11High School as well as several colleges, and eventually became art director for the Mounds
1.12View School District; and
1.13WHEREAS, Ellsworth also ran a photography business and volunteered his time and skill
1.14to document special events for his church, St. Mark's Lutheran in North St. Paul; and
1.15WHEREAS, he was a member of the North St. Paul Lions Club, the North St. Paul VFW
1.16and American Legion posts, and Disabled American Veterans; and
1.17WHEREAS, in 2013 the French Consulate General presented Ellsworth with the Knight of
1.18the Legion of Honor medal for his wartime service, and in 2015 he witnessed the completion of
1.19the North St. Paul Veterans Park, a project he said was one of his life's greatest achievements; and
1.20WHEREAS, Ellsworth's family, friends, and former students remember him for his
1.21devotion to education, the arts, and his fellow veterans; his generosity of time and spirit; and his
1.22infectious, perpetually youthful optimism; and
1.23NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the State of Minnesota that
1.24it honors the exemplary life of Ellsworth Burch Erickson and offers its deepest condolences
1.25to his family and friends.
1.26BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is directed to prepare
1.27an enrolled copy of this resolution, to be authenticated by the Secretary's signature and that of
1.28the Chair of the Senate Rules and Administration Committee, and transmit it to the family of
1.29Ellsworth Burch Erickson.
