1.1A Senate resolution
1.2honoring Bob Kierlin on the occasion of his retirement from the Board of Directors
1.3for the Fastenal Company.
1.4WHEREAS, the Fastenal Company, incorporated in 1968, sells nuts, bolts, and other
1.5industrial and construction supplies, and has been distinguished by decades of rapid, steady
1.6growth; and
1.7WHEREAS, Bob Kierlin was one of the company's founders, along with Steve Slaggie,
1.8Jack Remick, Michael Gostomski, and Van McConnon; their goal was to devise a means of
1.9making all kinds of nuts and bolts readily available to the general consumer, and by the early
1.101980s, Fastenal was operating more than 30 company-owned stores; and
1.11WHEREAS, Bob majored in mechanical engineering at the University of Minnesota,
1.12where he later earned his M.B.A; he has been an active philanthropist, supporting numerous
1.13projects and other worthy causes in the community; and
1.14WHEREAS, Bob honorably served Districts 32 and 31 from 1999 through 2006 in the
1.15Minnesota Senate; and
1.16WHEREAS, Bob is stepping down from the Board of Directors of the Fastenal Company
1.17after more than 45 outstanding years with the company; and
1.18NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the State of Minnesota that it
1.19thanks and commends Bob Kierlin for his important contributions to the business community in
1.20Minnesota, and extends best wishes to him for his retirement.
1.21BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is directed to prepare an
1.22enrolled copy of this resolution, to be authenticated by the Secretary's signature and that of the
1.23Chair of the Senate Rules and Administration Committee, and transmit it to Bob Kierlin.
