1.1A Senate resolution
1.2honoring Gigi Marvin of the United States women's Olympic hockey team on winning
1.3the gold medal at the 2018 Pyeongchang Olympics.
1.4WHEREAS, Gigi Marvin, daughter of Mike and Connie Marvin of Warroad, has had an
1.5extraordinary career in hockey; and
1.6WHEREAS, Gigi attended Warroad High School and was named to the hockey All-State
1.7team three times, winning the Minnesota Ms. Hockey Award in her senior year in 2005 when she
1.8accumulated 55 goals and 112 points; and
1.9WHEREAS, at the University of Minnesota, she received All-WCHA First Team honors
1.10her sophomore and junior years, and in her senior year, she helped lead the Gophers to the Frozen
1.11Four while earning All-WCHA Second Team honors and being named WCHA Outstanding
1.12Student-Athlete of the Year; and
1.13WHEREAS, she is a three-time participant in the International Ice Hockey Federation World
1.14Women's Championships; she won gold in 2008 and 2009, and won silver in 2007; and
1.15WHEREAS, she has won five gold medals with the United States team at the World
1.16Championships in 2008, 2009, 2011, 2013, and 2017, and two silver medals in 2007 and 2012; and
1.17WHEREAS, she currently plays for the Boston Pride of the National Women's Hockey
1.18League (NWHL); she won the 2016 NWHL Defensive Player of the Year Award, competed in the
1.19Isobel Cup finals, and played in the 2016 and 2017 NWHL All-Star games; and
1.20WHEREAS, she won the silver medal for United States women's Olympic hockey team in
1.212010 and 2014; and
1.22WHEREAS, on February 22, 2018, at the Pyeongchang Olympics, Gigi scored a goal in the
1.23shootout round of the gold medal game to help the United States women beat archrival Canada 3-2
1.24and win the gold medal, their first since 1998; and
2.1NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the State of Minnesota that it
2.2congratulates Gigi Marvin of the United States women's Olympic hockey team on winning the gold
2.3medal at the 2018 Pyeongchang Olympics.
2.4BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is directed to prepare an
2.5enrolled copy of this resolution, to be authenticated by the Secretary's signature and that of the
2.6Chair of the Senate Rules and Administration Committee, and transmit it to Gigi Marvin.
