1.1A Senate resolution
1.2honoring and commending ACSI District Spelling Bee Champion Daniel
1.3Nicholas Bozanich.
1.4WHEREAS, on behalf of all the citizens of the state of Minnesota we, the Minnesota Senate,
1.5wish to recognize young citizens of the state of Minnesota who through their natural talents and
1.6commitment to academic excellence utilize their education to execute feats of great intellectual
1.7achievement; and
1.8WHEREAS, one such outstanding person is Daniel Nicholas Bozanich, who distinguished
1.9himself by winning first place in the ACSI District Spelling Bee; and
1.10WHEREAS, Daniel is the son of Peter and Stacey Bozanich and lives in Eden Prairie,
1.11Minnesota; and
1.12WHEREAS, Daniel is 12 years old and a student in the seventh grade at Chapel Hill Academy;
1.13and
1.14WHEREAS, Chapel Hill Academy is a private Christian school in Chanhassen, Minnesota,
1.15serving grades pre-kindergarten through eighth grade; and
1.16WHEREAS, Chapel Hill Academy is accredited by the Association of Christian Schools
1.17International (ACSI); and
1.18WHEREAS, Daniel represented his school at the ACSI District Spelling Bee on Friday,
1.19February 2, 2018; and
1.20WHEREAS, the ACSI District Spelling Bee includes spellers from all over the district
1.21including all of Minnesota; and
1.22WHEREAS, Daniel was so determined to do well in the competition that he studied flash
1.23cards and spent several months studying; and
1.24WHEREAS, he began the day by winning first place in the seventh grade division; and
1.25WHEREAS, he moved on to compete and win first place in the overall District Spelling Bee
1.26competition that included the top four spellers from 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th grades (16 kids total);
1.27and
1.28WHEREAS, he showed poise and self-control as he spelled a series of difficult words under
1.29the scrutiny of judges and the pressure of performing on a stage with a microphone and audience;
1.30and
1.31WHEREAS, words that Daniel had to overcome throughout the course of the competition
1.32included "scrupulous," "clairvoyant," "velleity," and "predilection"; and
1.33WHEREAS, this is the second straight year that Daniel has won the ACSI District Spelling
1.34Bee; and
1.35WHEREAS, Daniel's success at the District Spelling Bee earned him the chance to compete
1.36in the ASCI Mid America Regional Spelling Bee in Marion, Indiana, on Friday, March 16, 2018;
1.37and
1.38WHEREAS, he has worked very diligently and has demonstrated a strong aptitude for
1.39spelling, making him a clear example of the best qualities of Minnesota youth; and
1.40WHEREAS, he is a young, modern-day scholar, earning the National Presidential Academic
1.41Award for demonstrating excellence in math and reading; and
2.1WHEREAS, although Daniel is an exceptional student at his school; he is very involved in
2.2many school activities such as soccer, basketball, and track and playing the French horn in the
2.3school band and he enjoys reading because it enhances his memory for words; and
2.4WHEREAS, Daniel faithfully worships the Lord as an active member of Grace Church in
2.5Eden Prairie, he is involved with the Boy Scouts, and he volunteers regularly, giving back to his
2.6local community; and
2.7WHEREAS, his determination, hard work, and commitment has brought pride and honor
2.8to the people of Minnesota; and
2.9NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the State of Minnesota that it
2.10recognizes and congratulates Daniel Nicholas Bozanich for his exceptional performance at the
2.11ACSI District Spelling Bee and his meritorious service to the people of Minnesota and wishes him
2.12every continued success in future endeavors.
2.13BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Senate commends Daniel's teachers at Chapel Hill
2.14Academy as well as his parents for helping give him the foundation and love of learning that has
2.15served him so well.
2.16BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is directed to prepare an
2.17enrolled copy of this resolution, to be authenticated by the Secretary's signature and that of the
2.18Chair of the Senate Rules and Administration Committee, and transmit it to Daniel Nicholas
2.19Bozanich.
